Brandon:
I’m Brandon with Sherrilltree, and today we’re going to talk about how to install a Hitch Climber Pulley System.

What You’ll Need

To set this system up, you’ll need:

  • A Hitch Climber Pulley

  • Two oval-shaped carabiners

  • A prusik cord

It’s best to use a rope with a spliced eye, since knots can interfere with the smooth operation of the prusik and pulley.

Step 1: Attach the Pulley

Start by clipping one carabiner into the spliced eye of your climbing line. Connect that carabiner to the top hole of the Hitch Climber Pulley.

Step 2: Tie and Attach the Prusik

Next, tie your preferred prusik hitch—such as a Distel, Schwabisch, or VT (Valdotain Tresse).

Connect the two eyes of the prusik cord to the bottom hole of the Hitch Climber Pulley using your second oval carabiner.

Step 3: Adjust for Efficiency

Once everything is connected and properly dressed, you now have a complete Hitch Climber Pulley System.

For a slight variation, you can move the top carabiner to the front hole of the pulley. This creates more separation between the two legs of the climbing line, which some climbers prefer for smoother operation.

✅ Key Benefits

  • Streamlined setup for efficient ascending and descending

  • Keeps the prusik hitch running clean and consistent

  • Allows flexibility with different hitch styles (VT, Distel, Schwabisch)

  • Designed for use with a spliced eye climbing line for best performance
